FAQ

What does "all-natural" soap mean?
Here at St. Tammany Soapworks we create soap the old fashioned way, by combining ingredients found in nature. We add no synthetic ingredients, no preservatives, no harsh chemicals. You can be assured that our line of products contain only ingredients that you are familiar with, and that provide a soothing, moisturizing and luxurious experience in your tub or shower.

How long will my soap last?
Our bar soaps typically last 3-4 weeks on average with daily use. The longevity can vary, of course, based on the number of users, the amount of lather you use, the water type, etc. To prolong the life of the soap, we recommend storing your soap in a dry area and using a soap dish that fully drains when not in use.

We do recommend using your soap within six months to a year. While it would be completely safe to use after a year, you will find that some essential oils tend to fade over time. So to thoroughly enjoy the full benefits of the soap, it's best to use them while you can still smell them!

Do you have a brick and mortar store?
No. While we are primarily an online retailer, we do occasionally participate in in-person markets. Sign up for our email list or connect with us on Facebook or Instagram for announcements on when you can find us live and in person!

If you are local to the Northshore area of Louisiana, we do offer local pickup or delivery for free. Upon checkout, you will have the opportunity to choose this option based on your zip code.

Don't I need antibacterial soap to kill germs?
No. Antibacterial soaps are no more effective than plain soap and water for killing disease-causing germs. There is no evidence that antibacterial soaps are more effective than plain soap for preventing infection under most circumstances in the home or in public places.

Commercially produced soap that claims to be antibacterial often contains triclosan, an ingredient also found in a variety of cleaning products. The FDA has recently raised questions about whether triclosan is hazardous to human health, as research has shown that it can alter hormone regulation in animals, as well as damaging the environment.

Are your products vegan?
Some of our soaps are vegan and some are not. We normally use a vegan base of natural plant oils and butters, however we do occasionally use animal-derived additives such as goat milk, buttermilk, yogurt, honey and beeswax.

But have no worry, our products are never tested on animals (except our very human guinea pigs).

We provide a full list of ingredients for each of our products, so you can make an informed choice about a product that is right for your lifestyle. Look for the V symbol on the product pages of our website to indicate vegan products.

Will your soaps help cure my acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis?
While we can make no health claims on any of our products, we do firmly believe that using all-natural soap made with good-for-you ingredients may help relieve skin irritations. Traditional mass-produced soaps contain many chemical ingredients that can lead to dry, itchy skin which just contribute to certain skin conditions. So by just eliminating these toxic ingredients, you could see an improvement.
